How the Estimate Is Built

The public data, visible formulas, model assumptions, and limits behind every supported country result.

Methodology at a glance

One traceable path from source to range

Supported countries start with a national demographic proxy. The calculator then applies only the factors shown in the result panel, softens overlapping restrictions, and reports a planning range. Countries without a connected data profile stay in preference-only mode and do not receive a demographic percentage.

1. National baseline

A supported country starts with a public relationship-status proxy and gender-specific baseline.

2. Visible factors

Age, income, height, market breadth, and active preferences become separate, inspectable factors.

3. Overlap adjustment

Later restrictions are softened so the model does not present a naive product as exact joint probability.

4. Planning range

The midpoint is widened into a deliberately broad range instead of a false point estimate.

What the result means

It is

A scenario-planning range that shows how a national baseline and the visible choices in the tool interact under the current model.

It is not

A forecast of finding a partner, a live count of available people, or a statistical confidence interval derived from joint microdata.

Model specification

The formulas used by the calculator

The notation below mirrors the production implementation. Values are clamped to prevent extreme inputs from producing a misleading zero or impossible certainty.

1. Individual factors

City factors begin at 1.16 for the first listed market and step down by 0.025, bounded between 0.82 and 1.16. Search-area factors are 0.90 for selected city, 1.00 for metro, and 1.08 countrywide. This is a disclosed market-breadth assumption, not city census data.

2. Priority and overlap

R = product(f_i ^ (w_i x d_i))

A dealbreaker has weight 1, a preference 0.45, and an ignored field 0. The first ordered factor uses d = 1; later factors use d = 0.72. This dampening reduces the false precision created by multiplying correlated filters as though they were independent.

3. Midpoint and range

B_g is the supported country baseline for the selected gender context. U is a model uncertainty allowance of 22% of the midpoint, with a minimum width of two percentage points. It is intentionally not labeled a formal confidence interval.

  • The uncertainty band around the calculated midpoint

  • Whether a person is actively dating
  • Mutual attraction or willingness to meet
  • Compatibility, relationship quality, or future success
  • Dating-app activity or a live count of available people

Worked example

Reading a result without overstating it

Consider the default United States scenario: New York, selected city, age 25-35, with income and height ignored. The national baseline is adjusted by the visible city and age factors. The age factor is softened because it follows the market factor in the ordered calculation.

The result is displayed as a broad eligible-share range. It does not mean that every person in that range is single, nearby, interested, mutually compatible, or available to meet. Changing a field lets the user compare scenarios; it does not create a forecast about an individual relationship.

Interpretation rule

Compare changes, not destiny.

The most useful signal is which visible factor changes the range, not the final decimal itself.

Country data used in supported estimates

Official national sources provide context, not a live dating census. Income values are interpolated between broad anchors in each country profile and are never presented as exact local quantiles.

Review individual assumptions and local-language explanations in the country data directory.

Known limitations

  • Relationship status is a demographic proxy, not proof that someone is available or actively dating.
  • City selection changes a visible market-breadth assumption; it is not a city-level census match count.
  • Lifestyle factors use stated compatibility weights, not invented local prevalence estimates.
  • The range does not model attraction, mutual interest, relationship success, or platform activity.
